Seme Customs Intercepts Hard Drugs Concealed In Diapers, Worth Over N1.4Bn

The operatives of Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, have intercepted some items suspected to be tramadol capsules concealed with adult diapers in a Container in Lagos. This is even as the items worth over 1.4 billion naira.

In a statement signed by the command spokesman, DSC Hussaini Abdullahi made available to our correspondent, noted that 
the 1X20 Feett container with container  number MRKU 9090415 was laden with  some items suspected to be tramadol capsules concealed with 200 packages jumbo size of adult diapers. The Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the suspected drugs and Diapers is N1, 447, 927, 050.

According to the statement, the container was handed over to the NCS, Seme Command on the 15 November 2021 by the Republic of Benin Authorities under transit to Nigeria. The container had being under the custody and watch of officers of the Command as no importer or representative have shown up to continue the process of clearance the detained container.

“On the 20 December 2O21 Nigeria Customs Service invited other Security Agencies and Stakeholders to witness the examination of the said Container. Upon examination, the items discovered were 200 packages of Adult Diapers, 100 cartons of Gabadol 120mg (suspected to be tramadol) and equivalent to 360kg. The diapers were smartly arranged at the front of the container while the drugs was at the back” the statement read in part.

While warning perpetrators of unlawful activities to avoid the Command or meet their Waterloo, The Customs Area Controller, Compt. BM JIbo reiterated that officers and men of the Command are not losing guards at ensuring that smuggling under any guise is brought to the barest minimum and facilitation of legitimate trade remains cardinal objectives of the Command.

The Customs Boss  was said to have directed that samples be taken out officially and handed over to National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to ascertain and confirm the drugs (Gabadol 120mg) and full investigation being carried out to apprehend perpetrators of this illicit importation.
