Seme Customs Seizes Contraband Worth N788m

The Seme Command of the Nigeria  Customs Service (NCS) in 2020 recorded 1,294 interceptions with a total paid value of N788,189,205.00 (Seven Hundred and Eighty-Eight Thousand, One Hundred & Eighty Nine Thousand, Two Hundred and Five Naira only) for the seized items.                                                              In a statement on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer of the Command;  Mr. Hussain Abdullahi Onawo said that the breakdown of seized items are:* 7, 667 bags of foreign parboiled  rice ( 50kg each)* 3bags of sugar (50kg each)

Others include,1, 080, 875 litres  of  Premium Motor Spirit* 127 units of smuggled vehicles* 1,514 cartons of frozen poultry products* 646  Hard drugs packets* 166 parcels of cannabis sativa* 31, 868 General Merchandise goods
The statement added that Fifteen (15) suspects were arrested in connection with different forms of  crimes during the period under review; of which some were released on administrative bails while others were at various stages of trial in  court. The Customs Area Controller (CAC) Comptroller Mohammed Jibo  noted that the above landmark  achievements could be attributed to the deliberate policies adopted by the Command, ably supported by the management of the Service under stewardship of Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), appreciable coopration by sister security agencies and unwavering synergy  with the host Communities.
Comptroller Jibo added that his team and he would not relent in discharge of their duty and core mandates to protect the country from the economic saboteurs..
