AMANO Hails Capt.Umoren’s Appointment As Secretary General Abuja MoU

The Alumni Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron (AMANO) a body of maritime professionals who schooled through the institution has commended Federal Government for the appointment of an erudite scholar and a maritime expert as the Acting Secretary General of the Abuja  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Ports State Control.
In a letter addressed to Captain Sunday Umoren, the Ag. Secretary General of Abuja On Port State Control, through his office No. 1. Joseph Street, off Marina, Lagos, AMANO through its President,  Mr. Emmanuel Maiguwa, noted that the Board of Trustees, National Executive Council, and entire AMANO members are happy for his appointment as the news boss of Abuja MoU port State Control.
According to the AMANO’s president, “we would like to extend our warmest congratulations to you, on your appointment as the Acting Secretary General of the Abuja Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Port State Control.”
To them his appointment is a well deserved one indeed.”We believe this is a well-deserved appointment and will bring a lot of promise to the African region under Ports State Control. Most of our members have worked with you at various capacities and have experienced your expertise and dedication towards improving safety and standards in the maritime sector. We are confident that your tenacity for producing result will set you aside in your new role,” Maiguwa said.
AMANO while wishing him a successful tenure, also prayed that he use his experiences and wealth of knowledge in handling the affairs of the great office.”Let me wish you all the success in assuming this vital role and achieving the goal towards ensuring a harmonized port state control procedure and practices amongst all the member territories of the Abuja MOU.”
Speaking on the relationship between the two Organizations and the need for the two to work together as one or the Abuja MoU to get the full support of AMANO, the president assured:”I am delighted to emphasize that the relations between Alumni of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, ORON and the Abuja MOU will grow with your expertise, vis-a-vis the AMANO objectives. The association is always available at your disposal to provide expert support to enable you to discharge the responsibilities of your office successfully.Once again, Congratulations, as we look forward to immediate engagement with the ABUJA MOU for effective coordination of Port State Control amongst member states. Please accept the assurances of our highest regards,” Mr. Maiguwa concluded.
