|Many years of corruption-ridden operations as well as other challenges associated with freight forwarding and cargo clearing processes at the nation’s seaports is gradually becoming a thing of the past.|
This is so because one of the leading freight forwarding associations is currently displaying exemplary leadership of style by ensuring that all those processes that delay in cargo clearance and documentation are eliminated.
To achieve that, the NAGAFF recently constituted a 100% Presidential Taskforce to carry out such task of cleaning up the mess in the clearing processes at the ports.
NAGAFF’ 100% presidential taskforce is one of its kind and the best that has happened in the sector in the recent time considering the level of corruption in the system which has not in any way helped to facilitate easy and faster movement of goods from the ports but have rather constituted bottleneck in the clearance processes as well as trade facilitation.
The taskforce or compliance team which was mandated to clear the rot in the system had since commenced work at the ports and Customs formations with expectations to to abet, and reduce corruption at the ports with partnering with Federal Government in ensuring that facilitation of trade becomes Paramount than meeting targets at the detriment of trade facilitation.
Recall that at earlier stage of the formation of the compliance taskforce team, there were objections from concerned stakeholders, who felt that NAGAFF should not tread such noble part or at best it not come from the association yet NAGAFF being a goal setter and a leading freight forwarding association moved on without being and shown some good example of what they are up to and today many industry stakeholders are proud of NAGAFF and its compliance team on the impact they have made so far.
The presidential compliance team which was the initiation of the National Vice President, Western led by Alhaji Tanko Ibrahim, a man full of ideas and visions has through this made real impact in freight forwarding subsector within the short period he has spent at NAGAFF.
The high- handedness of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) against the clearing agents themselves coupled with unethical conducts coming from the operators against the whole system, the gross impunity ,unfriendly policies and practices at the ports have been hindering operations at the ports will come to an end any time from now.
Speaking at the formal commissioning of Western Chapter of the Compliance Team, the association, NAGAFF through its Founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam said,NAGAFF is partnering with government have through the taskforce resolved to partner with the government and its agencies in ensuring total compliance at the ports thereby setting agenda for the operators to follow.
At the commissioning of the Western Secretariat situated at Eleganza Plaza, in Apapa Lagos, recently, Maritime Practitioners and operations would begin to see the positive impact of what the team is doing the industry.ReplyForward
