Western Marine Customs Made Another Spectacular Seizure: Destroys Cartons of Poultry Products

The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has again on September 24, 2019, made another wonderful and eyes-pocking seizure of a total of 2,439 cartons of frozen products after the ones it seized the previous weeks. The 2,439 cartons of frozen products was said to have valued at N17.6 million also had a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N23.7 million.    It would be recalled that the command made a similar seizure last week and destroyed over thousands cartons of the same product worth millions of naira. Speaking to newsmen on the latest seizure, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) Compt. Boyiliya Binga, frozen poultry products were intercepted at the beach side by the patrol team of the enforcement unit of the command. And that they were intercepted at two different operations by the officers and men of the command while on their regular patrol.While responding to questions from newsmen at the destruction site during the press briefing held at the command on Tuesday September, 24, 2019,  the Comptroller said assured that with the commissioning of the new sea-going vessel which, the command will begin to make use of soonest, smugglers will find it difficult to operate with the western axis.He (the CAC) noted that seized items were made on September 21 and 22, 2019 respectively along B Badagry axis and Ibeche waterways.According to him, “The command is always ready to intercept contraband and if the smugglers do not want to stop, then we will not relent to continue with the seizures.”Giving more information on the seizure, Comptroller Binga noted that the items intercepted by his Officers and men were in all 2,096 cartons of the frozen poultry products and were intercepted at various points and at different places. He said on the 21st 253 cartons and 22nd 2,096 all totaling 2,349 cartons. Still commenting on the how the command is prepared for the evil men called smugglers, the CAC said: “If these smugglers are not tired of losing their money, we, the Nigeria Customs Service, Western Command anti-smuggling unit would never be tired of destroying their products.” “Please help to tell the smugglers to stop wasting their huge amount of money in importing contraband goods rather they should go into legal and legitimate businesses,” Comptroller Binga further warned the smugglers.
