The members of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) has regretted tagging the officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as their enemies over the years, saying their real enemies are not just the Nigeria Customs Service Officers and men but importers who have over the years engaged in fraudulent, nefarious activities which are inimical to the fiscal policies of the Federal Government as well deprive government its rightful revenue.
The members of the AMATO who were represented at the monthly roundtable programme of Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) MARAN’s International Press Centre, Apapa, Lagos by their Chairman, Mr. Remi Ogungbemi maintained that such wrong impression should be corrected as Customs are indeed their real business friends, their job of haulage and movement of cargo in and out of the nation’s seaports.
“Customs is not our real enemies. Our main enemies are the importers (the bad importers) who are the ones smuggling all sorts of things into the country. They are the ones we should see as our enemies not Customs. Customs are helping us.”
