Seme Customs Generates Over N2.6billion in March-June, 2019

***As It Intercepts Drugs Concealed in Indomie Truck

It was a mind boggling as the Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Services (NCS) made a total revenue generation of Two Billion, Six Hundred Twenty-Seven Million, One Hundred and Forty-Nine Thousand, Hundred and Twenty-One Kobo   (N2,628,149,100.21) from the month of March to June 2019.

The grand total figure for both revenue generation and seizure stood at N2,793,242,214.31.

Some of the seizures for the Officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service were a show of shame for Nigerians at the Command’s press briefing on how smugglers have degenerated to the level of different kind of concealments of different things and in various ways just to deceive the Officers and men of the service.

Such concealed items include: 8,304 bags of 50kg foreign rice, which were said to be equivalent to14 Trailer load of trucks  of with Duty Paid Value (DPV) plus levy N88,828,240.00, 31 Jerry Cans of Vegetable oil with DPV of N269,911.00, 35×50 bags  Sugar valued at N444,785.00, 135x25litres of Premier Motor Spirit (PMS) worth N212,100.00, 71 Cartons of expired food Seasoning with DPV of N458,109.09, 336 Cartons of alcoholic drinks worth N4,776,525.00.

Others seizures include: 2,582 parcels of a cannabis Sativa found to have been concealed in a truck meant to belong Indomie and another notable arrest of 55 parcels of same Cannabis Sativa concealed in a Sienna bus , all having combined figure of1,686 parcels a total duty of over N30 million, 175X6 yards Textile materials with DPV of N2,242,287.00, 15 sacks of used clothes which has a duty valued at N677,486.00.

The Command equally seized 28 cartons of medicament valued at N1,083,978.00, 410 sacks of schoolbags worth N13,227,113.00, 2,000 cartons of Expired Biscuits estimated to cost N7,742,700.00 and a 493 packs expired  pampers loaded in a truck which has a duty paid value of N4,100,000.

Comptroller Mohammed Uba noted that the Command in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or what the CAC called Community Service (CS) ss directed by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Col.Hameed Ali (Rtd.) that 25,000 bags of foreign Parboiled Rice  (an equivalent 42 trailer trucks), 650 bags of Sugar,150 Cartons of Tin tomato, 150 bags of floor and 250 kegs if vegetable oil were transferred to the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST) between the months of April and May this year for onward delivery to Yobe State Government, Damaturu for distribution to IDPs in the state.

However, the  seized hard drugs said to had been concealed in Indomie truck by smugglers were equally said to have uncovered by operatives of Seme Customs at the border area between Nigeria and Benin Republic  through intelligence.

Meanwhile, a senior Officer of NDLEA, Commander Udotong Essien ,the Seme Border Area Commander of NDLEA, who received the hard drugs, commended Seme Customs and promised to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter.4
