|A week after the Western Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) under the leadership of the incumbent and able Customs Area Controller (CAC) Comptroller Boyiliya N. Binga destroyed over N6.5 Billion worth of poultry products, the Command again seized 658 cartons of frozen chicken valued at N6.6 milllon.The Command said that the items were seized at different locations within Badagry area of Lagos between Saturday 13 and Monday April 15, 2019.” On the 8th of April 2019, 650 cartons of poultry products were seized by our patrol officers on 608 cartons and were destroyed and buried by my left hand side here (Pointing at the conner where the previous ones were buried) and today again, we have made another seizures of same items. One, 608 cartons at Afo wo water front another 50 cartons were just seized yesterday along Amodl Jetty, all along Badagry axis of Lagos .” The staff officer of the Command who spoke on behalf of the Command ‘s Area Controller, Assistant Comptroller Samuel ……said, so far the smugglers can’t stop the Customs will not relent.|
”As far as they (smugglers) refuse to stop this their activities , we will equally not relent in seizing these dangerous items.”If you look at the type of seizures, one was made at about 10:30 and the other one was made at about15 past 1am in the midnight. And the officers are always on top of the game, on top of them. As long as they continue in this nefarious activities, we will run the out of business.”
The staff officer advised the smugglers to look for legitimate businesses to engage in.
”The advice l for them to desist from this kind of business and look for something legitimate and engage on.”Speaking about the value of the of the seized items, the Command said: ”yesterday being 15th another 50 cartons were seized by the patrol team. Western part of
(CAC) and the enforcement unit of the Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service as the swoop on the smugglers.”The Command on Monday destroyed poultry products with over N6.5million Duty Paid Value, (DPV) on just a one single outing. The items were burnt in the presence of officials from NAFDAC, other government agencies, as well as the media men.The Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Command, Comptroller Blnga, who was elated over the performance of his officers on patrol, spoke to the newsmen after destruction exercise, said, the destruction of the items was in line with the policy of government, adding that such items are not healthy for human consumption and must be destroyed, as later effects of such would be dangerous and harmful to human health.Comptroller Binga as well warned Nigerians against the issue smuggling of and everything that has to do with smuggling. He specifically noted that items like frozen chicken are highly prohibited items, as well as poultry products into the country and must not be allowed to be imported into the country on whatever form. The Command later hinted that the seizure was possible because of the Command’s intelligence gathering.The western Marine boss who was physically angry with the way smugglers are going about the nefarious destructive business of theirs, said that they are destroying the economy of this country and as well endangering the lives of its populace while equally hindering the local industry from growing.
