Logistics,Transport Sector Paramount To Economic Development – Minister

The Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi has said that logistics and transport sector  which are critical,important and also very paramount to the nation’s economy and development.

The minister made this disclosure at the 2018 annual conference and general meeting of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) held at Golden Tulip Hotel, Festac, Lagos at the weekend.

The Minister who was represented at the event by the Director Transport Policy and Coordination, Mrs. Esuabana Asaye commended the organisers and members of the CITL for putting up this year’s event very unique.

According to Hon.Amaechi “as a key stakeholder in the logistics and transport sector the clout of the institute remains paramount to the economic development of the nation”

On the CILT,its bill before the National Assembly and the need for National Transport Policy, the minister said: ”I have not forgotten Thursday, July 6, 2017 when we were at National Assembly Complex, Abuja listening to deliberations of the House Committee on CILT-Nigeria.
But I am sure the institute is expectant to see the emergence of the Act as this will play influential role modeling the logistics transport policies for the future development of sectors in Nigeria.”

Speaking about the conference, its theme and importance to the sector, the minister expressed pleasure that “I am happy to see the conference theme: ”Trucks in Freight Logistic System- Issues in Nigerian Economic Development”, I anticipated the institute to have taken a research on the matter looking at how Lagos traffic dilemma has affected free flow of  freight and trade which invariably affect the cost of movement of people, goods and services.”

The minister also stated,his expectation was that the conference, annual general meeting as well as  the elections  would fast track the development for the benefit of all.

He also spoke about the important of human capacity development.
”My hope is for a future in which the sector is human capacity development of Transport profession Certificate and Licensing Motoring and Evaluation. Membership  Registration (individual and corporate Research Development and Advocacy) which are the hallmark of the institute would  become world class in scope and output,’the minister concluded.
