The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded an impressive and remarkable feat along the area of anti-smuggling war by making a total seizure with a Duty Paid Value of N81m in just 30 days after  resuming duties as the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Western Marine Command of the service.

The CAC,Comptroller Benjamin   Binga who made this known in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC1 Emmanuel Tangwa, said that the Command was able to make his first ever seizure of a massive wraps of Cannabis along  Badagry axis just within the first four days of resumption of duties while in 30 days of office, series of other seizures were also made.

”As if God heard his plea, just barely four days into his resumption, massive seizure of wraps of Cannabis were seized along Badagry creeks signalling a purposeful start in 30 days series of massive seizures recorded by the Command with the period under review, items seized including Eight Hundred of bags of foreign parboiled  rice of 50 kg and Eight Hundred and Six of wraps of cannabis, and over I5,000 kegs of 30 litres of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) totaling (450,000) litres. The PMS was auctioned to general public and some security agencies. The  Duty Paid Value (DPV) total items seized amounted to Eight Million, Eighty Thousand Naira only (N8,080,000.00)”

Comptroller Binga B.N is not only making a great impact in the anti-smuggling war, but also making impact in the area of cooperation with the men and officers of the Command.

Though the Command has for sometime now it seems to have gone under and suffered set back as a result of dearth of operational tools which on its own has  made patrol difficult as lack of both patrol boats and operational vehicles hindered effective operation at the Command.

But not withstanding all these challenges at hand, the new CAC,  Binga’s new approach to anti-smuggling which resulted to this superlative out was due to the leadership dexterity of the CAC and his management team.

For smugglers and their nefarious activities, the Compt.Binga noted that the seizures were made at  different places within Idiroko axis and Badagry creeks.
He promised to give the economic saboteurs hell if they fail to stop such illegal business.
