…Says SDP Is Youth oriented Parties
As the 2019 general election draws near, a front line freight forwarding practitioner and youth empowerment advocate, Elder James Chidiadi Opara has officially declared that he is contesting for the seat of federal house of representative come 2019 general election.
Elder Opara who made this disclosure in an interview with The Emperor in Lagos at the weekend said he would contesting under the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The SDP hopeful who is also an advocate of youth empowerment and advancement, equally says that his party, SDP is a social democratic party and youth oriented hinted that re-enforced and re-strategized as a party to make a meaningful impact in the up coming election both at the
local, state and federal level.
According to elder Opara who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), ANOMS Ventures Limited, a freight forwarding venture,.SDP as a social democratic party is youth oriented and has a bedrock for youth empowerment and development. Our party focuses on youths mostly those between the age bracket of 35 and 50. I want to also view people who are over-aged as not the right people to lead this nation. If there are people, I think that can do it, those who are better and are capable of taking the country to the promise land, it should be the youths of this nation. All I am saying is that the youths can do it. And I want to throw my support behind them. And also, I see myself as a capable hand to go and represent my people at Abuja.
On how to ensure his victory if he scales through the party’s primaries, the Owerri, Imo State born politician who also contested for Lagos House of Assembly under SDP in the last election said, ”people are already making up their minds on how they will vote this time around and that they would not want to be tricked again. We have two mega parties in the country that have ever ruled the country and we saw their performances. They have not only failed the youths of this nation, they have also disappointed Nigerian youths and had insulted them too.”
Speaking of his youth advocacy group, the Dynamic Youths Association of Nigeria (DYAON), which he is the current National Public Relations Officer (PRO), Opara noted that the youths of this country are not given the right place politically in the nation.
He further said that despite all that are happening in this country and their claims, the youths are neglected, yes they are not taken care of. All we see are paper works, there is no practicality by this government about them.
Still on the Nigerian youths and how committed they are, the Anoms Venture boss was of the view that if anyone wants to see lively and committed youths, the person should come to Apapa Local Government Council. There, he said, you will see youths that have put their heads down and are ready to learn and engage themselves to meaningful things and there is no encouragement. We don’t have lazy youths.
As a home-grown freight forwarder, a grassroot politician and youth motivator, Opara said, ”And mind you, I am coming from the background of a freight forwarder in the maritime sector for that matter.”
He stated that youth encouragement and empowerment is the cure focus of SDP.
”I am of good opinion that I have a lot to offer the youths. Not that we are not mindful of our aged parents and what they supposed to do politically and democratically.”
Opara emphatically promised that his part SDP as youth oriented party had a lot of plans and programmes.
”Yes SDP as a party has a lot for Nigerian youths. We will not be insulting them and will not be calling them lazy youths. We have capable youths, who have read widely and are meaningfully engaged in various life endevours. So there a lot SDP will want to do with Nigerian youths. We will empower them and that is the background I am having where I am coming from at DYAON.”
While commenting on DYAON and the impact it has made so far this maritime expert says ”DYAON’s focus is to empower the youths from the nation. DYAON is the only youth organisation that has its footing across the 36 states of the federation as well as the FCT, Abuja.”
Elder James is also the chairman of Owerri Freight Forwarders Association (OFFA) Lagos branch, a group he describes as a pressure group.
According to him, OFFA is a wonderful and dynamic freight forwarding pressure group in the maritime industry. And we have succeeded in empowering and seeing that our members at all levels are well represented in all the associations in the maritime industry through winning elective positions. In ANLCA, we have the immediate past national secretary, at Tin Can, we have the secretary. In NAGAFF, we have the immediate past and present PRO, at Airport chapter of NAGAFF, the immediate vice chairman of the chapter is from Owerri freight forwarders association. You can go on and on.
So, we have been championing for the course of youth empowerment and advancement.”
As an expert in freight forwarding profession, elder Opara promised that if he eventually won the election to represent Apapa federal constituency 1, he will give his people good representation.
”The freight forwarding industry had not have its fare share as it supposed and that is why things have not been working out well for the industry over the years (Apapa is the gate way to the nation’s economy and the freight forwarders are the ones that generate bulk of the money that goes to federal coffers). Yet the government has not fixed right things that will help to ensure that the enamours resources are well harnessed and accounted for if elected. If elected, I will do all within me to propose bills that help move the industry forward and will always realign with my constituency.”
