Convert Lilypond terminal into a holding  bay- NPA urged

An appeal has gone to the Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority NPA, to convert the Lilypond containers Terminal at Ijora Apapa, Lagos , into a holding bay for trucks and trailers.

The appeal came from Petroleum Tankers Drivers while speaking with newsmen in Lagos.

An Official of the group, Mr Pascal Igwe argued that if the request was granted government would generate much more revenue from the place than it would if it still remain a terminal.

He said that the trucks park provided at Orile,Lagos, was becoming too small for the volume of trucks calling there on a daily basis.

Mr Igwe said it was not the desire of the truck and tanker drivrrs to park on the bridges.

On the recent directive by the Nigerian Navy for all trucks to vacate bridges, leading to Apapa, Mr Igwe said it was not the desire of the trucks and tankers drivers to park on the bridges, but the non- motorable nature of the access roads to the ports has necessitated the long queues seen there.

He therefore called for assistance and encouragement to those wishing to develop trailer and truck parks, in the area of finance and security.
