Information reaching our news desk has it that Nigeria has bagged this year’s Green Bonds Award .
This was announced at the Annual Green Bonds conference held today in London , Uk.
The award , under the category of New countries taking green bond global , was received by the Deputy High Commissioner , London, Ambassador Kabiru Bala.
Launched early last year, the hugely subscribed Nigerian green bond was a proactive fund raising effort to finance the Country’s projects towards tackling Climate Change in line with the Paris climate treaty.
The Minister of Environment, Professor Ibrahim Usman Jibril recently confirmed that part of the proceeds from the Green Bond would be used to fund a number of Environmental projects in the 2018 national budget.
He listed some of the projects to include the solar powering of selected Universities and continuing the Great Green Wall Programme of creating a wall of trees along desert Frontline states in northern Nigeria.
